1920s Elegance
The Moorish arches and built-in cabinetry of the house attracted the owners when they were looking to purchase a house. The house needed significant work, but the charm was there.
Scarlet Lark Studio worked with the architecture to enhance it. Layering in bold art lithographs from Ludwig Holwein over a mixture of contemporary and vintage furniture gave the living room an timeless and distinctive look.
The house sits on sunny corner lot, flooding the living room with beautiful natural light. The soft yellow of Farrow & Ball’s Farrow Cream warms the room, diffusing the light as it filters through the custom Swiss dot Roman shades.
Accents of blue are found in the lamps and art objects as well as in the arm chair.
Light-filled living
Moorish arches open into a foyer connecting the stairs leading to the upstairs bedrooms, home office and half bath.
Deep crown molding and wood trim in a soft white define the walls. Subtle textures are introduced with a wallcovering that matches the wall color. The warmth of the wood floors grounds the room. Each element provides a layered space with visual depth without high contrast.
The furniture compliments instead of competes with the strong architecture of the house.
Architectural Elements
The living room displays some of their favorite things: art books, antiques, and decorative accents.
