Tudor Home Kitchen Renovation
The owners of a custom-built Tudor home in the Woodland Pond neighborhood of Chesterfield, Virginia want to refresh their existing kitchen. The home is filled with beautiful walnut millwork and hardwood floors. These were important design elements that had to stay in the final design.
The kitchen is the heart of the home, with a view towards the Pocahontas State Park. The family loves to gather around the table to talk, eat, watch the wildlife or quietly read. A bespoke, tufted millwork banquette created the gathering spot. The leather edged jute rug grounds the marble table and adds warmth to the floor.
As the living and dining rooms have existing walnut stained hardwood floors, the kitchen brings in a soft, light grey-toned Italian porcelain floor tile to coordinate with the existing hardwood floors.
Color drenched emerald tiles from Artistic Tile provide a rich backsplash separating the quartz countertop and the existing cabinetry. The emerald green is found in the Rebel Walls Blossom Fling wallpaper which acted as the inspiration for the kitchen design. The pendant fixture over the dining table picks up on the floral theme .
Replacing the existing walnut island with a creamy white island balances and unifies the room.

Storage was a significant concern. Storage drawers incorporated into the banquette base provided a place for the family to store their personal items. A new built-in pantry provided additional storage for cook books and items used on a regular basis in the preparation of food.
